One notebook, ms. pencil, repurposed as a scrapbook ([39] p. ; 21 x 18 cm.) contains 141 chromolithograph trade cards, mounted on both sides of pages. Marbled paper cover with red leather corners and gilt-stamping. Lacks spine and back board. 11 chromolithograph trade cards and cigarette cards mounted on matboard (41 x 56 cm.) 26 loose chromolithograph trade cards. 18 of the loose cards include historical depictions of African Americans; these 18 cards have Brooklyn Museum accession numbers: x2006.16.1, x2006.16.2, x2006.16.3, x2006.16.4, x2006.16.5, x2006.16.6, x2006.16.7, x2006.16.8, x2006.16.9, x2006.16.10, x2006.16.11, x2006.16.12, x2006.16.13, x2006.16.14, x2006.16.15, x2006.16.16, x2006.16.17, x2006.16.18. The collection includes trade cards representing such Brooklyn, N.Y. firms as B.M. Cowperthwait & Co. furnishings, Mme. Demorest sewing patterns, Edwin C. Burt & Co. Fine Shoes, Hale & Kilburn Manufacturing Co., Ithamar Du Bois clothier, John Paret & Co. retail clothiers, Joseph J. Byers fine boots and shoes, and M. Schulz & Bro. furnishings.
